Vision and Purpose
"Mount of Olives" is an Evangelical Pentecostal Church of Protestant matrix, with the vision of changing the national religious profile, introducing a disruptive element of pluralism.
Our Church wants to engage in a process of reconstruction in a multi-ethnic perspective, modifying liturgical patterns, internal organization, perspectives of witness, in order to become an inclusive reality of different ethnic groups and to preach a Gospel that crosses all cultures and manages to overcome the barriers of separation.
We believe that the vision and practice of a multi-ethnic Church, which does not limit itself to welcoming the stranger but makes of him an integrated and strategic presence, will introduce us to God's purpose, allowing us to reach out and conquer nations.
In our community reality, it is quite frequent that our Sinhalese brothers, after a period of stay in Syracuse, return to Sri Lanka or move to other cities in Italy or abroad, bringing with them the testimony of an authentic conversion of faith.
Some of them have founded churches and are serving as pastors abroad.
In the light of this experience, the primary project purpose that the Mount of Olives Church proposes is to form men and women of God, of different ethnic backgrounds, so that, returning to their countries of origin or wherever they may go, they may be a light to the nations.
At this point in our history, therefore, it has become necessary to build an adequate structure, capable of accommodating not only a community that has always been industrious but also people of every nation, which will be a home for new generations and in which our statutory purposes can be pursued.
In particular, for statutory purposes, the building that will house the Mount of Olives Church is proposed:
- spreading the Gospel;
- assistance to the poor,
- to foreigners, to the sick,
- to drug addicts,
- to alcoholics,
- to the marginalized
- and inmates.
In addition, within the structure will be promoted, organized and managed courses
- school training,
- study seminars and conferences;
- consulting offices;
- publishing and printing about social activities.
Professional figures will also be involved, to provide the following activities:
- counseling in helping relationships
- couples counseling
- legal advice
We can see this already now and believe that it will come into existence through the love and generosity of those who love "being church together"!
